Throughout my outreach ministry I have been struck by how many people will welcome spiritual care once a practical need has been addressed. A hungry person is not in a position to hear a sermon. Meet the need first, and the conversation opens on its own.
I believe this is part of God's design, and that it should be a focus of any ministry organization. He has guided this ministry toward hygiene kits, and they have been well received by both the unhoused community and our distribution partners — a small, dignified package that says plainly: you are seen, you are loved, you are not alone.
“Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food… If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?”
